Don't I know how it feels for that to happen! I go to a public school, and there are SO many people who don't know Christ. I encounter them daily...I talk to them daily. And when I'm talking to them, God reveals to me the hurt that they're going through. He shows me the need they have for healing, and how broken they are because they don't have a Savior.
The truth is, as a Christian, there are still times when I am broken and unsure of things. But I have Jesus to fall back on. He's there, and I know He's there, no matter what happens. So as things start to get bad, I hold onto Him tighter, and I don't let go.
So what do people who don't know Jesus have to fall back on? Many people seek other things to get the comfort and the safety they feel like they need, but they look in all the wrong places! Many people are turning to drugs, alcohol, smoking...so many negative things that don't help in the end. In the end, these things just hurt.
Jesus is always there for these people, if only they would call on His name! They just don't know that He's there.
We, as Christians, should always be on lookout for broken people like this. Ask God to open your heart, and make you more sensitive to people like this, so that when they do come along, you can fervently pray for them, and share Jesus with them. Jesus can and will change their life.
One more thing, is that people need to know why they need Jesus.
Say you had a speeding ticket, and it was a really bad one. And someone came up to you, and said that someone was willing to pay the fine for you. But the trick is, you didn't even know you had a speeding ticket! So you think this is utter nonsense!
Alternatively, think about what would happen if the person had said "Hey you were going thirty miles over the speed limit, and you have a speeding ticket with a nasty fine. but someone is willing to pay for it for you."
The second situation would make more sense, right? You understand why you need that gift. In the first one, you would be offended because you didn't know that you had a speeding ticket.
It's like that with witnessing. We can't just be telling people that they need Jesus without revealing to them why they need Jesus.
We need to be showing people the ten commandments, asking them if they've kept them..then telling them what the Bible has to say about the people who don't keep the commandments. Then we can tell them about grace and what Jesus did on the cross, and how much He loves them. That way, they will know why they need Jesus, and be more accepting of Him!:)
